We often close our eyes to what is going on in the world around us. The words of i-defy express this reality in a way which motivate others to open their eyes and their mouths. Often, their songs narrate encounters with various social sciences, painting a picture of the not-so-bright future. While the music of i-defy drive these realities home with layers of angst-ridden guitars and aggressive drum patterns.

Before bands painted themselves up like magazine ads and spewed out heartfelt lyrics of relationships gone wrong, before cookie cutter fashion core there was a time where bands wrote music with meaning.... one of those bands were i-defy.

i-defy was formed mid-1998 by five long-time friends. Since then they have performed live as often as possible creating their ravenous fanbase. Their crowds grew steadily and they began packing clubs with people who had been searching for this ingenious form of hardcore. Traces of early 90's hardcore and punk rock melded together by tight melodies; i-defy create music that would not be dated. They released their self-produced debut demo in February of 1999 and sold hundreds of copies at their shows. Since then the crowds have grown rapidly as their words spread quickly through the fed up youths across the country. Their explosive live show caught the attention of Michigan-based Medea Records and they were quickly signed. Label backing seemed to be all the band needed to move forward. With a much more mature sound the band released their debut album, (the lessons of life's brutality become) Guides to Action, for the label in July of 2002, meeting with much praise from fans of punk and metal alike. The album went on to chart very well on college radio. Soon, the band found themselves ranked amongst high-profile bands on much bigger labels. As a result, they found themselves sharing the stage with bands like Bloodlined Calligraphy, Dead to Fall, Seventh Star and Fordirelifesake, exposing their music to a multitude of diehard fans.

They’ve created quite a buzz through diligent promotion, live performances, and web presence leaving a lasting impact throughout the hardcore music scene. Sadly, the group officially disbanded in 2003 to pursue other musical ventures..
